On December 3, Always Active instructors gathered at On Lok 30th Street Senior Center for a comprehensive Body and Balance workshop. The training was led by two professionals: Rowena Richie, a dancer and choreographer with extensive experience teaching dance, qigong, and tai chi to older adults, and Diana Lara, a dancer, somatic educator with a M.S. in Kinesiology. Participants explored key concepts including center of gravity, static and dynamic balance, and assessment methods for testing balance. The highlight of the workshop was an interactive exercise where instructors drew upon their expertise to design and share balance exercises. Throughout the session, the collaborative environment celebrated the diverse knowledge and experience of our instructor community, and our goal of improving balance of Always Active participants.
